Welcome to Only Make Believe in Washington D.C. We launched Only Make Believe in Washington D.C. in 2012. Our locally based company of 10 actors performs interactive shows in hospitals in the D.C. area with children who may not have the opportunity to experience live theater.

Our six-week series of interactive performances introduces children living with chronic illnesses and disabilities to the world of live theater. The children become the stars of the show as every one of our performances is designed to include the audience in the storytelling process. The OMB shows use the power of ‘make believe’ to fill the hospital playrooms with song, dance, movement and laughter, inspiring joy and happiness.

Only Make Believe currently works in Children’s National Medical Center, The Psychiatric Institute of Washington, The HSC Pediatric Center with its Kids in Action Program, Jill’s House and The Children’s Inn at National Institutes of Health. Our goal is to serve as many children as possible in the D.C. metropolitan area.  Recently our work at The HSC Pediatric Center with its Kids in Action program was highlighted by My Fox DC.  Get a front row seat to one of our shows by watching the clip.

Donations can be made on the Donate page.  If you would like to learn more about volunteering with us in Washington, getting your company involved or becoming a Only Make Believe Ambassador in Washington D.C. please contact our Regional Director Tamela Aldridge at

Our program is funded in part by the D.C. Commission on the Arts & Humanities, an agency supported in part by the National Endowment for the Arts.
